Osteosarcoma
The Osteosarcoma Institute (OSI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to financing research, treatment, and care for patients with osteosarcoma, or rare bone cancer. They have a mission statement that they can invest in innovative research, to empower the patients with resources, and to build a community that inspires hope.
As OSI approached us, their intention was clear; they wanted an updated and easy-to-use site, so that patients, researchers, and donors could easily access information, share and tell stories, and contribute towards the fight against osteosarcoma. They sought an online platform capable of scaling with their expanding efforts and capturing the impact of their mission.
Business Challenges
The mission of OSI was strong, yet its digital platforms suffered numerous setbacks that restricted reach and impact. Below are the five core challenges we have identified:
- Donation Struggles: The old donation process was complicated, with unclear steps and errors on mobile. These disappointed supporters caused the transaction drop-off, and the risk of losing important money required for osteosarcoma research progress.
- Content Bottlenecks: Even minor updates, such as the patient’s stories or new research grants, required developer involvement. This slow communication made the site feel old and blocked the mission to share updates on time at OSI.
- Limited Navigation: Essential resources, such as OSI Connect, clinical trial information, or grant opportunities, were challenging for patients and researchers to identify. The complicated menu left users disappointed and unwilling to return.
- Visual Limitations: The old design dominated the text without conveying a reasonable opinion that would articulate the effect of OSI. The Emotional patient stories and research breakthroughs were buried, and the engagement and the donor trust were reduced.
- Growth Constraints: As OSI expanded programs such as OSI Connect, the old platform could not easily scale. Connecting facilities restricted the necessary expensive custom work, delaying launch programs and future development.

Solutions
We addressed these challenges with a digital strategy that focuses on accessibility, clarity, and mission-operated storytelling. Each solution was designed to empower the community of patients, researchers, and supporters of OSI.
- Streamlined Donations: We have created a prominent CTA, secure payment system, and donor experience with a mobile-first design. Donors can now make their contributions easily, and OSI has continuous funds to invest in life-saving research.
- Flexible CMS: With the implementation of WordPress CMS, the OSI team could update stories, publish research news, and initiate a campaign without having to depend on the development team and hold back on urgent updates.
- Simplified Navigation: The menu has been redesigned and divided into sections for patients, researchers, and supporters. Resources such as OSI Connect and trial search are now easy to find, creating a friction-free experience for every visitor.
- Impactful Design: We added contemporary images, devoted narrative blocks, and highlight effects. It is also available in a front and center format showing patient journeys, research milestones, and donation outcomes of OSI, to stimulate action and trust.
- Scalable Framework: A scalable platform designed for future programs was created by us. OSI can now expand features such as OSI Connect and support long-term mission growth without technical obstacles.

WordPress
