Life Healthcare is one of South Africa’s largest private hospital groups, offering a wide range of health services through a network of hospitals, experts and affiliated medical professionals. The company required a strong, dynamic website to handle the data of multiple hospitals, display real-time operating updates and simplify access to hospitals and doctors for patients across the country.
Life Healthcare contacted Pennine Technolabs for a change in their digital appearance. Our goal was to provide a modern, mobile-first, information-rich website that can streamline the organization’s long-term development and user experience for every patient.
Business Challenges
Despite being a recognized brand in the healthcare sector, Life Healthcare’s legacy website faced significant website challenges that affected user experience and digital efficiency:
- Complex Hospital and Doctor Listing: The healthcare website lacked a structured, user-friendly approach to display hospital branches and doctors’ details. This made patients difficult to find relevant services or contact information quickly.
- No Real-time data: Important data such as emergency contact information, visiting hour, or the operating status was unstable and not relevant; the website created trust issues with internal staff or visitors and manual updates.
- Hospital Service Information: Services offered in hospitals are not classified properly. Users had to browse several pages to identify or download the documents, whether any feature provides special treatment or characteristics.
- Backend Support: There was no way to customize the content or pages, resulting in generalized information that lacked local relevance for each hospital page. The handling person had to take up with the developer for each update.
- Mobile Optimization & Performance: With an important mobile user base, slow load speed and poor mobile experiences were impacting traffic and visitors’ experience. Many patients dropped before reaching the booking or contact form.
Solutions
We approached the Life Healthcare project with a full-stack solution, focusing on user experience, data structure, speed optimization and future scalability.
- Dynamic doctor and hospital list: We developed a centralized search system with dynamic filters, allowing users to detect hospitals or doctors of availability in the city, characteristics and in real time.
- Real-time Data Module: The integrated live data components on the hospital news page were drawn directly from the backend to display real-time updates such as emergency number, COVID-19 notice, and operating status.
- Category-wise Service Mapping: A smart classification model is designed that combines each hospital with its available services, allowing users to filter hospitals based on specific treatment or features.
- Geopolitical Content: Applied location-based features that show nearby hospitals and personal contact details based on the user’s selected area or GPS location.
- Mobile Experience Design: Frontend website development with mobile-first design was rebuilt and optimized for the backend query to improve the load speed, resulting in a 60% increase in mobile user engagement.
